We had an interesting experiment in our office where we decided to trust an AI to manage our vending machine operations. Perhaps it’s one of those things that sound exciting and technologically advanced on paper, but the practical implications were far from satisfactory.n n The AI was programmed to manage the inventory, choose the most popular snacks, and even adjust the pricing based on demand and consumption patterns. The projections seemed promising, but the theory couldn’t quite match up to reality.n n Over a period of three months, we observed the AI misjudged demands, overstocked on less popular items, and under-priced products leading to considerable losses. Drawing from the unanticipated turn of events, it became clear that some tasks might still be better managed by humans.n n The experiment ended with a cumulative loss of hundreds of dollars. Could it be a limitation of the current AI technology, or did this expose a stark contrast between human and AI run operations? The field is undoubtedly ripe for exploration, and it’s interesting to anticipate the developments. Read More
