As we move further into the digital age, Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to cause remarkable transformations in our lives, according to new research from MIT. The study shows that AI is already capable of performing the jobs that 12% of America’s workforce currently does. These are mostly tasks that are repetitive, predictable and do not require human interaction. However, this does not necessarily mean that these jobs will disappear, but rather they may undergo significant changes as companies incorporate AI into their businesses.
While the inequality gap could widen if measures aren’t put in place to redistribute the benefits of AI, this technology also promises vast improvements in efficiency and productivity. In the long run, it may also spawn new job categories that we can’t even predict today.
As AI continues to evolve, remaining adaptable and open-minded is crucial for the workforce. Upskilling and reskilling are becoming increasingly important for employees to remain relevant in the job market.
