In a stark warning to the white-collar workforce, Ford CEO, Jim Farley, has stated that half of such jobs could be eradicated due to the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
Despite the pandemic, AI has been identified as a progressively domineering influence in the future for the workforce across multiple sectors.
Mr. Farley, however, drew attention to another issue – the essential economy’s vast shortfall of appropriately skilled labor. As traditional office-based roles become more susceptible to AI outpacing human workers, a significant gap in the workforce is growing within the essential economy. Industries such as manufacturing, nursing, plumbing, and electric work, amongst others, are experiencing a worrying labor shortage – an issue that automation and AI cannot rectify.
