In an unprecedented move, Nvidia’s CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang, has called on the Trump administration to revise its rules governing the export of Artificial Intelligence (AI) chips. Huang made this plea amidst a growing concern that U.S.’s hardline stance might hinder the global advancement of AI technology.
The tech executive argues that AI, specifically Nvidia’s advanced processor technology, plays a pivotal role in a range of transformative sectors, such as self-driving cars, climate predictions, disease detection, and more. Limiting the export of these could potentially inhibit global progress in these fields.
This plea for more lenient regulations reflects a broader concern within the tech industry over the Trump administration’s policies that have tightened control over chip exports, particularly to China. These policies were implemented in response to alleged national security threats but CEOs like Huang argue that these measures may end up adventitiously stifling innovation.
As yet, the Trump administration has not publicly responded to Huang’s request. Read More
