In a world that is already rife with technological advancements, Artificial Intelligence has taken a center stage, driving a lot of our activities and decisions. It is seen in almost every sphere of our lives, from simple tasks to complex activities that help us navigate our day-to-day lives. However, while we cannot deny the convenience and efficiency it offers, there is a growing concern about over-reliance on artificial intelligence.
This is highlighted in this piece, as a girlfriend shows worry about her boyfriend’s overuse of artificial intelligence, fearing it is affecting his ability to think independently or make decisions without technological input. While AI is designed to aid human abilities and not supplant them, there is a line that can seemingly be crossed, leading to over-dependence. This is the crux of the matter and poses the question, ‘Is AI helping or hindering our cognitive abilities?’
The boyfriend in question, an avid AI user, seems to be leaning more on AI for his decision-making processes, thereby pressing the worry button of his partner. While we need to treasure and encourage technological advancements, there is a need for balance, to keep our human intuitions, abilities and independence intact. Decisions about emotions, relationships, and personal development should indeed come from us, not algorithms. This piece pushes for the need for a balance between AI use and the preservation of human cognitive independence.
